Charity sleepout and launch of United Homeless Bank #homelessentrepreneur

Event Details

When we visit MWC, the homelessness problem is swept away so we don’t get to see the extent of the problem. Homelessness affects towns and cities across the world and is not limited to Barcelona. However, an American entrepreneur, Andrew Funk, has been based in Barcelona for the last 12 or so years, has decided to do something about the problem in his city. His vision is to tap into the skills of the homeless person and help them help themselves off the street.

Every month, they do a sleepout to raise awareness of the problem and their next one is on the first night of Mobile World Congress. They’re putting on a street conference to talk about mobile technology can help people out of homelessness. They’re also launching a United Homeless Bank (I don’t know the organisation so I can’t vouch for this – you’ll need to do your own research) and there’ll be a sleepover, if you’re so inclined.

There are more details over on their Facebook page here but I’ve shared some of the info below for you as well.

I know many of you are interested in technology for good and will be in or around Fira Barcelona on Monday evening as you’re leaving the exhibition. Maybe it’ll be worth your while to stop by?

#HomelessEntrepreneur would like to invite you to our 24h monthly event called “Everyone Sleeping in the Street” to help Barcelona speed up the process of eliminating homelessness by creating work. We will discuss how mobile technology, banking and society can make this happen on the 26th; then those who want to, will participate in a sleep out in front of MWC to show their support; and finally create awareness and raise donations on the 27th. You can participate whenever you’d like to during the 24h event, be it the street conference, the sleep out and/or raising awareness during the first day of MWC17!

#HomelessEntrepreneur believes that commitment will eliminateĀ homelessness, which is why we are going to hold a 24-hour monthly event until Barcelona provides housing and work for each and every homeless person. This event will include a street conference given by experts on subjects related to homelessness.

The sixth event will start with the street conference on February 26th at 19h30 in front of the MWC17 entrance at La Fira Gran Via! Each speaker will have 10 minutes to present and then the audience will have 5 minutes to express his/her opinion and/or ask a question and/or make a suggestion. The format is very simple and interactive, so come ready to participate and speak your mind!

The first confirmed speaker for the street conference is Monica Chitnis.
