Ease into congress by spending Sunday afternoon with us looking at mobile innovation from the perspective of investors, start-ups and network operators. Discussion panels, demos and plenty opportunities to mingle with your fellow mobilists, this relaxed session should whet your appetite for what will be a fantastic week at Mobile World Congress.
Sponsorship opportunities still available. Please get in touch with Helen to discuss.
Seats are limited. Free to attend. RSVP required. You can RSVP over on our eventbrite page. There is a waiting list in operation. Subject to sponsorship funds, our aim is to find a bigger venue if we can.
To apply for one of the demo spots, please fill in the form here http://bit.ly/demospot. Each demo will be 2 minutes with 2 minutes for questions. The format is show and tell style rather than a formal investment pitch although investors will be in the room.
Speakers include Petra Soderling from Mobile Brain Bank, Joe Braidwood from Swiftkey, Gael Rosset of Myriad, Andrew Scott from Urban Horizon, James Pimentel-Pinto from Agency Mobile and Ismo Rantala from Nest New York and FinnMob.
We’ll be announcing our demo companies shortly.
We’re still finalising the agenda and exact timings and it is subject to change, but at the moment, we’re thinking something like:
1.30pm doors open
2pm - Panel 1. Startups and tech SMEs are the talk of the day and we are looking to them for innovation. More and more students graduating from universities look into entrepreneurship and working with small businesses whilst many large corporations are often losing attractiveness as employers with their formal structures and internal culture. Does that formal structure and culture stifle innovation? Can it be overcome and if so, how? Can traditional OEMs, operators and service providers work with startups and other individual contributors to nurture innovation and in doing so attract and retain talent? Do large corporations need to change with the new ways of working? Or is the corporate structure on its way out and we need to rethink our working culture altogether in this new age? Are there companies successfully crossing this culture gap and has it turned into commercial success for them? Or are we being unrealistic about how the digital economy will work in the future and some of this structure and formality is what’s required and we’re over-estimating the role of innovation?
2.45pm Demos – we have space for up to 5 demos in this session
3.10pm Networking break
3.30pm Panel 2. Startup accelerators, incubators, co-working spaces and more are popping up all over the place to support the technology start-up scene across the globe. Are these the right way to go to support technology entrepreneurs and SMEs? Do network operators and handset manufacturers have a role to play in nurturing the ecosystem beyond providing a framework for app distribution and if so, what kind of roles? What do we need to encourage innovation at all levels? And is innovation the answer to commercial success?
4.05pm Demos – we have space for up to 5 demos in this session.
4.30pm Networking
5.30pm Doors close
