Swedish Beers Barcelona 2018 Wrap Up: The thank yous, the photos and next events

What a fab time we had at Swedish Beers a couple of weeks back in Barcelona. Admittedly, the weather wasn’t up to much, but Muy Buenas gave us a very warm welcome despite us drinking the bar dry and having to have an emergency beer and wine delivery at midnight!

First up some thank yous:

To Carolina and her team at Muy Buenas for looking after us so well.

To Rosa, Patrick, Irene, Ida and Angel for being the welcoming committee with me at the door.

To Erika Arias for her fabulous photographs once again. Check out more of her fabulous photos here.

To all our sponsors for providing the cash for the beer tokens and being such good co-hosts on the night. They are – Equal Experts, x-Mobility, Headforwards, 51 Degrees, Evernym, 1NCE ably supported in cash and in kind by NOBA, Kairos Future, ZZZ Accommodation, Idka, White Bull Summits, Trustonic, Joshua PR, When in Barcelona and Claire Coombes.

And to all of you who came and who keep the Swedish Beers spirit alive and kicking.

Next events:

The next Swedish Beers event will be in London but I haven’t yet fixed a date as I need to co-ordinate sponsors. If you’d like to sponsor, get in touch by email here.

In the meantime, you may want to pop along to the panel session I’m chairing in London on Wednesday 21 March 2018 where we’re discussing what we discovered at this year’s Mobile World Congress. Panellists include Paul Stringer who heads up the mobile team at Equal Experts and Priya Prakash who is the founder of D4SC and is also one of the UK Government’s DIT Technology Specialists.

Tickets are free and tapas and drinks are courtesy of Equal Experts. RSVP required. You can do that by registering for a ticket below or by clicking here to reach the Eventbrite page.

Welcoming our first batch of sponsors for Swedish Beers #13 in Barcelona

I’m delighted to welcome the first batch of Swedish Beers sponsors for the upcoming Swedish Beers Mobile Networking party in Barcelona.

First up, Equal Experts.

Equal Experts is a network of talented, experienced software and hardware consultants, specialising in agile delivery. Their in-depth expertise and an uncompromising approach to quality make all the difference – and that’s what the background of engineering rigour and proven delivery practices brings.

The company has a long-standing relationship with the mobile industry, having worked with O2 Telefónica on its mobile app platforms since 2012. Together, they delivered the Priority and MyO2 native apps along with the platform that powers them – supporting millions of happy O2 customers along the way.

Equal Experts’ efforts in mobile go beyond software to include proprietary hardware. Their BluetoothTap technology unifies the ‘tap & go’ experience across all major smartphones. IBM iX has adopted BluetoothTap in its vision of the future of retail, successfully using it within a prototype for a secure, mobile-first retail shopping experience to dramatically improve checkout times.

Paul Stringer, and some of his senior mobile team, will be joining us at Swedish Beers. It’s their first time as a sponsor so please be sure to give them a very warm welcome.

Welcome back 51 Degrees!

Next up is 51 Degrees. James Rosewell and his team will be in Barcelona and joining us as a sponsor for the second time. So let’s make sure we welcome them back with open arms.

51Degrees provides The Fastest and Most Accurate Device Detection solution. That may sound like a boast, but James tells me it’s true. Who am I to disagree?!Did you know that over 150 device models are launched worldwide every week?? Well 51Degrees does, because they add them into their database every single week.

Trusted by millions of people, they have over 1.5 million active deployments in virtually every country around the world using the 51Degrees device detection software day in and day out.

This software helps companies in Adtech, Publishing, Digital Experience platforms, Ecommerce, Telco, leveraging our huge database of over 880,000 (and growing) device combinations. This means the tech and screen size never gets in the way of the user experience regardless of device type. Using device detection makes you more money through more accurate targeting and optimized content.

So if you think you know everything there is to know about mobile device detection or optimisation, why don’t you challenge James and his team and test their knowledge over a beer in Barcelona?! You can also check them out in the exhibition on stand 7UP.72.

Welcome back x-Mobility!

x-Mobility is the Mobile Virtual Network Aggregator (MVNA), for Hutchison 3G UK, providing a White-labeled MVNO service for brands wishing to enter the mobile space. x-Mobility has a full MVNO license and provides all the services required for a brand to create its own MVNO proposition. By working with x-Mobility, brands can become a Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) launching their own branded mobile service in as little as 90 days and at a fraction of the cost and time of attempting to do this directly with a mobile operator. Pretty neat, huh?

Shanks and his team will be at Swedish Beers and they’re particularly interested to talk to brands (inc MVNOs & OTTs), media owners and app entrepreneurs who are looking to launch Telco Mobile Services about how to enable you with alternative mobile services which, in turn, helps you acquire, grow and own your own subscriber base. Not only that, they’re a great team to hang out with and talk all things telco.

If you haven’t RSVP’d yet, you can do that here. Remember, we’re not in Dostrece this year but I have a brilliant new venue lined up for you in central Barcelona. More on that in the next few days.
If you’d like to sponsor this year’s event in Barcelona, please get in touch with Helen. There’s still time to get involved. The more the merrier!

About our sponsors

Lead sponsor and host: aql

If you’ve been to Swedish Beers in Barcelona before, you may well remember aql’s founder, Adam, and his crew from as they’ve supported us for several years now and are well known in Leeds and the surrounding area. They really know their onions when it comes to voice, SMS and hosting – feel free to test them on their knowledge on the night! They’ve been in the mobile business for a very long time, have the most amazing data centre in a converted church in Leeds and are great fun to boot. Meet the gang to chew the mobile fat, enjoy a few beers and have a good time. Find out more about aql on the night or from their website.

Supporting sponsor: Inspiring Interns

If you’ve been to any of the London Swedish Beers parties, it’s more than likely you’ve met onre or more of the Inspiring Interns team. They now have a new office in Manchester so they’re also supporting Swedish Beers Goes North. Inspiring Interns is a graduate recruitment agency connecting talented graduates with top companies and start-up businesses across the UK with offices in London and Manchester. Swedish Beers, London–Midsummer Edition–Wednesday 17 June 2015

Yes, it’s just a few days to go until our next party in London. It’s coming up for midsummer so it’s about time we had another Swedish Beers party. For those of you who were in Barcelona, it’s time to relive some of the memories and for those of you who weren’t, then it’s time to create some memories of your own in London town.

Drinks are courtesy of Buzzcity (mobile advertising specialists and our lead sponsor for the evening), Inspiring Interns (recruitment agency focussed on graduate roles), Fantastic Services (London’s largest cleaning company who are about to launch their cleaning app) and US Tax and Financial Services (there’s nothing these guys don’t know about tax issues for US citizens in the UK or for UK citizens and businesses headed Stateside).

There’ll be plenty drinks to go around of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic varieties. There is food available to buy on the night if you haven’t had time to grab a bite to eat before you come.

We’re back at our favourite London joint, The Nordic Bar, where Swedish Beers began back in 2001 in the mists of mobile time. Doors will be open from 6.15pm and the bar has a late licence until midnight for those of you who want to stay up late on a school night.

If you haven’t been before, expect a friendly crowd, lots of chat about mobile, life, the universe and why Swedish Beers is called Swedish Beers. There will also be beer pong (yes, there’s a ping pong table) and, of course, refreshments (soft drinks are available and in plentiful supply) courtesy of our lovely sponsors. There will be people from all walks of mobile life there on the night – be that app developers, advertising, media, mobile marketing, handset manufacturers, payment providers, big data, brands, agencies, analysts, journalists, start-ups, veterans, noobs and much more. Swedish Beers–The Barcelona Photos

In case you missed them on Facebook, here are the photos from the party in Barcelona in March over on Flickr. They’re better quality on Flickr if you prefer the full screen HD performance!

A big thank you to our sponsors on the night – Kochava, AQL, Futurice, Drippler and Joshua PR.

Swedish Beers celebrates 10th annual party in Barcelona on 4 March 2015

ISB logot’s that time of year again when we all get together to celebrate all things mobile. And this year is an even bigger celebration as we are celebrating our 10th Swedish Beers party in Barcelona. How time flies! And how we’ve grown from the 25 or so of us who met that first time in Barcelona for a few beers and a chat!

This year’s party will be on Wednesday 4 March at Dostrece. And sponsorship funds permitting, we will also operate a nearby chill-out lounge as well. Want to talk sponsorship? Then please get in touch with Helen to discuss.

Like our previous events, this is a relaxed evening, no formalities, no presentations, no business cards thrust in your face as soon as you arrive. Just come with an open mind, be prepared to see friends old and new, talk nonsense, enjoy a drink or five and have yourself a good time. Oh, and leave the ties, the corporate personas and the sales spiel at the door please. The Swedish Beers crew will be on hand to welcome you as well as the friendliest bar staff in town.

No need to RSVP unless you want to and want a reminder of when and where the party is. There’s no official guest list, no tickets and there’s no guaranteed entry. Just come and go as you please.

We do have some lovely sponsors lined up for you but there’s room for more – especially as it’s our 10th Anniversary in Barcelona. Get in touch with Helen to discuss.

It is likely to get a bit busy at times. But don’t worry, people will be coming in and out all evening. That’s kind of the point as we know there’s always a lot going on and you might want to check out more than one party. If it’s very busy, there’s no need to queue to get in. Just check out one of the other bars nearby and come back a little later when it’s a bit less frantic.

There is a small cloakroom area at the bar, but it’s not secure so leave the laptops in your hotel room or apartment where they will be safe and won’t get in anyone’s way.

The venue is our favourite haunt with the friendliest bar staff in town, Dos Trece -http://dostrece.net/ We’ll be open from 7pm through until the early hours.

Sponsor announcements coming soon….

See you in Barcelona!

The Swedish Beers pictures are out!

I know it’s been a month since we all put the mobile world to rights at the Swedish Beers party in London, but I’ve only just had time to upload the photos for you.

A few thank yous are in order – Firstly to the fabulous sponsors – Open Mobile Media, Inspiring Interns (thank you for bringing the ping pong table and organising Beer Pong. What a hoot!), Futurice and US Tax & Financial Services. Thank you to the venue – The Victoria Park Plaza Hotel – you did a great job for us. And to the volunteers who helped me run the event, especially Shafiq for the photos. Speaking of which…

Created with Admarket’s flickrSLiDR.

They’re also up on Facebook too if that’s your thing. Feel free to tag, share etc.

I don’t yet have a date for the next Swedish Beers. Or a town to run it in (although I have some ideas of where would be good, obviously!). Get in touch if you’d like to sponsor.

Meanwhile, you might be interested in one of Cooladata’s upcoming events in London, Amsterdam and New York talking about behavioural analytics. There’s a webinar too for those of you who can’t meet in person. OK, so it’s not a beer and chat type event, but for those of you interested in monetising mobile (that’s most of you, isn’t it?), it may well be of interest. More info here. See you at the London one?

Who will you meet on Monday night?

It’s just a few days until the next London edition of Swedish Beers and I expect you be wondering who is paying for all the beer. I’m pleased to announce our sponsor line-up. They are ready and waiting for you to join the merry throng, have a chat about all things mobile, or the weather, whatever suits and to enjoy a beverage or two. We’ll have wine, beer and soft drinks available.

open mobile media logoOur lead sponsor, once again, is Open Mobile Media. They’re hosting us at this year’s Open Mobile Summit London. You’ll meet Precksha, Manni, Ruthana, Ina and the team. They’re all lovely and they’ve all been working incredibly hard to put the conference together. I’m pleased to be chairing one of the sessions too. They’ll have the biggest batch of beer tokens and I know they’ll want to meet as many of you as possible to find out your thoughts on all things mobile and where it’s heading.

If you haven’t got your ticket already, I have an *exclusive* discount code for Swedish Beers and Heroes of Mobile readers and attendees. You’ll get £500 discount on a gold or silver pass. Use code 2515Swedish on the registration form.

futurice_logo_basicNext up, we have Futurice. They kindly supported Swedish Beers in Berlin this time last year. Futurice is a software design and development consultancy based in Finland, Germany and the UK. They believe in an open culture that fosters happy, motivated people. And they’re a very friendly bunch. They even have their own Futurice beer!

Sampo and his team will be on hand to talk mobile with you. They have tons of experience and some very cool projects they’ve worked on so I know you’ll enjoy chatting to them.

Basic CMYKJoining the sponsorship roster are newcomers to Swedish Beers, US Tax & Financial Services. Join Nora, Sitara, and Fran from US Tax & Financial Services. They provide advice, guidance, planning and compliance services for individuals, partnerships, corporations, trusts and estates for anyone subjected to the US tax system, wherever they may be in the world. If you’re already doing business in the US or are planning to set up an office there, these guys can help you navigate the complexities of the tax system there and also the complexities of additional compliance and regulations. Avoid those penalties and talk to these guys. You’ll also find they have more than a passing interest in mobile and technology and are very pleased to be supporting this edition of Swedish Beers.

inspiring logosAnd last but by no means least, we have inspiringinterns (internships and graduate recruitment) and inspiringsearch (digital recruitment and headhunting). If you’re a regular at Swedish Beers, you’re bound to have met one or more of the team already. Charlie and Benedict were on the door for our Barcelona party, CEO, Ben, has been attending Swedish Beers since they started back in 2001 and they’ve sponsored many times over the years. The team have been recruiting for the mobile industry for many years and are very knowledgeable and approachable.

If you haven’t signed up already, you can still do that over on Eventbrite or add yourself on Facebook. Doors will open at 6.30pm and we’ll be there for as long as people want to hang out.

See you in Barcelona!

First we take Manhattan, then we take Berlin!

That’s right people. To misquote Leonard Cohen, we were in Manhattan 10 days ago and now we’re headed to Berlin. Tomorrow! We have a couple of things lined up for you. First up is a panel discussion tomorrow afternoon looking at Where Mobile Meets Media in Berlin. We’ll be talking about the opportunities in Germany and also the international scene. We’ll look at monetisation and marketing and we’ll share some insights about where the German publishing industry is and where we think it’s all going. If there’s time, we’ll even have a few demos to share with you. That’s all going to be at Futurice’s Berlin office on Schützenstraße 6, 10117 Berlin. Free to attend and we have room for about 40 in total. The aim is to keep it intimate to allow for good conversation as we know there’s as much insight in the audience as there will be on the panel. Doors open at 2.30pm for a 3.15pm start.

Then in the evening, as the weather forecast is so good, we’re going outdoors for Swedish Beers. We’ve booked some space at Golgatha in Victoria Park from 6pm. Join our sponsors Somo, Futurice and Adeven for a few beers, some sunshine and some mobile chat. The first few beers are on them and then we’ll revert to a pay bar. What’s not to like about a few beers in the sun and putting the mobile world to rights!

Please RSVP for each event if you’d like to join us.
