About our sponsors

Lead sponsor and host: aql

If you’ve been to Swedish Beers in Barcelona before, you may well remember aql’s founder, Adam, and his crew from as they’ve supported us for several years now and are well known in Leeds and the surrounding area. They really know their onions when it comes to voice, SMS and hosting – feel free to test them on their knowledge on the night! They’ve been in the mobile business for a very long time, have the most amazing data centre in a converted church in Leeds and are great fun to boot. Meet the gang to chew the mobile fat, enjoy a few beers and have a good time. Find out more about aql on the night or from their website.

Supporting sponsor: Inspiring Interns

If you’ve been to any of the London Swedish Beers parties, it’s more than likely you’ve met onre or more of the Inspiring Interns team. They now have a new office in Manchester so they’re also supporting Swedish Beers Goes North. Inspiring Interns is a graduate recruitment agency connecting talented graduates with top companies and start-up businesses across the UK with offices in London and Manchester. Come and hang out with Martin and his friendly team.

Swedish Beers, London–Midsummer Edition–Wednesday 17 June 2015

Yes, it’s just a few days to go until our next party in London. It’s coming up for midsummer so it’s about time we had another Swedish Beers party. For those of you who were in Barcelona, it’s time to relive some of the memories and for those of you who weren’t, then it’s time to create some memories of your own in London town.

Drinks are courtesy of Buzzcity (mobile advertising specialists and our lead sponsor for the evening), Inspiring Interns (recruitment agency focussed on graduate roles), Fantastic Services (London’s largest cleaning company who are about to launch their cleaning app) and US Tax and Financial Services (there’s nothing these guys don’t know about tax issues for US citizens in the UK or for UK citizens and businesses headed Stateside).

There’ll be plenty drinks to go around of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic varieties. There is food available to buy on the night if you haven’t had time to grab a bite to eat before you come.

We’re back at our favourite London joint, The Nordic Bar, where Swedish Beers began back in 2001 in the mists of mobile time. Doors will be open from 6.15pm and the bar has a late licence until midnight for those of you who want to stay up late on a school night.

If you haven’t been before, expect a friendly crowd, lots of chat about mobile, life, the universe and why Swedish Beers is called Swedish Beers. There will also be beer pong (yes, there’s a ping pong table) and, of course, refreshments (soft drinks are available and in plentiful supply) courtesy of our lovely sponsors. There will be people from all walks of mobile life there on the night – be that app developers, advertising, media, mobile marketing, handset manufacturers, payment providers, big data, brands, agencies, analysts, journalists, start-ups, veterans, noobs and much more. There have already been a lot of RSVPs on eventbrite already. Why not join them? Come alone or come with a friend but do come.

Swedish Beers–The Barcelona Photos

In case you missed them on Facebook, here are the photos from the party in Barcelona in March over on Flickr. They’re better quality on Flickr if you prefer the full screen HD performance!

A big thank you to our sponsors on the night – Kochava, AQL, Futurice, Drippler and Joshua PR.

Photo credits Maria Stawska (– See her website and Facebook page) and Shafiq Mumani – Terra Advisors.

And here are the photos or click on the image above to get to the album. (Flickr no longer allows me to embed a slideshow here so you’ll need to head over to Flickr to see them). Enjoy!

Swedish Beers celebrates 10th annual party in Barcelona on 4 March 2015

ISB logot’s that time of year again when we all get together to celebrate all things mobile. And this year is an even bigger celebration as we are celebrating our 10th Swedish Beers party in Barcelona. How time flies! And how we’ve grown from the 25 or so of us who met that first time in Barcelona for a few beers and a chat!

This year’s party will be on Wednesday 4 March at Dostrece. And sponsorship funds permitting, we will also operate a nearby chill-out lounge as well. Want to talk sponsorship? Then please get in touch with Helen to discuss.

Like our previous events, this is a relaxed evening, no formalities, no presentations, no business cards thrust in your face as soon as you arrive. Just come with an open mind, be prepared to see friends old and new, talk nonsense, enjoy a drink or five and have yourself a good time. Oh, and leave the ties, the corporate personas and the sales spiel at the door please. The Swedish Beers crew will be on hand to welcome you as well as the friendliest bar staff in town.

No need to RSVP unless you want to and want a reminder of when and where the party is. There’s no official guest list, no tickets and there’s no guaranteed entry. Just come and go as you please.

We do have some lovely sponsors lined up for you but there’s room for more – especially as it’s our 10th Anniversary in Barcelona. Get in touch with Helen to discuss.

It is likely to get a bit busy at times. But don’t worry, people will be coming in and out all evening. That’s kind of the point as we know there’s always a lot going on and you might want to check out more than one party. If it’s very busy, there’s no need to queue to get in. Just check out one of the other bars nearby and come back a little later when it’s a bit less frantic.

There is a small cloakroom area at the bar, but it’s not secure so leave the laptops in your hotel room or apartment where they will be safe and won’t get in anyone’s way.

The venue is our favourite haunt with the friendliest bar staff in town, Dos Trece -http://dostrece.net/ We’ll be open from 7pm through until the early hours.

Sponsor announcements coming soon….

See you in Barcelona!

The Swedish Beers pictures are out!

I know it’s been a month since we all put the mobile world to rights at the Swedish Beers party in London, but I’ve only just had time to upload the photos for you.

A few thank yous are in order – Firstly to the fabulous sponsors – Open Mobile Media, Inspiring Interns (thank you for bringing the ping pong table and organising Beer Pong. What a hoot!), Futurice and US Tax & Financial Services. Thank you to the venue – The Victoria Park Plaza Hotel – you did a great job for us. And to the volunteers who helped me run the event, especially Shafiq for the photos. Speaking of which…

Created with Admarket’s flickrSLiDR.

They’re also up on Facebook too if that’s your thing. Feel free to tag, share etc.

I don’t yet have a date for the next Swedish Beers. Or a town to run it in (although I have some ideas of where would be good, obviously!). Get in touch if you’d like to sponsor.

Meanwhile, you might be interested in one of Cooladata’s upcoming events in London, Amsterdam and New York talking about behavioural analytics. There’s a webinar too for those of you who can’t meet in person. OK, so it’s not a beer and chat type event, but for those of you interested in monetising mobile (that’s most of you, isn’t it?), it may well be of interest. More info here. See you at the London one?

Who will you meet on Monday night?

It’s just a few days until the next London edition of Swedish Beers and I expect you be wondering who is paying for all the beer. I’m pleased to announce our sponsor line-up. They are ready and waiting for you to join the merry throng, have a chat about all things mobile, or the weather, whatever suits and to enjoy a beverage or two. We’ll have wine, beer and soft drinks available.

open mobile media logoOur lead sponsor, once again, is Open Mobile Media. They’re hosting us at this year’s Open Mobile Summit London. You’ll meet Precksha, Manni, Ruthana, Ina and the team. They’re all lovely and they’ve all been working incredibly hard to put the conference together. I’m pleased to be chairing one of the sessions too. They’ll have the biggest batch of beer tokens and I know they’ll want to meet as many of you as possible to find out your thoughts on all things mobile and where it’s heading.

If you haven’t got your ticket already, I have an *exclusive* discount code for Swedish Beers and Heroes of Mobile readers and attendees. You’ll get £500 discount on a gold or silver pass. Use code 2515Swedish on the registration form.

futurice_logo_basicNext up, we have Futurice. They kindly supported Swedish Beers in Berlin this time last year. Futurice is a software design and development consultancy based in Finland, Germany and the UK. They believe in an open culture that fosters happy, motivated people. And they’re a very friendly bunch. They even have their own Futurice beer!

Sampo and his team will be on hand to talk mobile with you. They have tons of experience and some very cool projects they’ve worked on so I know you’ll enjoy chatting to them.

Basic CMYKJoining the sponsorship roster are newcomers to Swedish Beers, US Tax & Financial Services. Join Nora, Sitara, and Fran from US Tax & Financial Services. They provide advice, guidance, planning and compliance services for individuals, partnerships, corporations, trusts and estates for anyone subjected to the US tax system, wherever they may be in the world. If you’re already doing business in the US or are planning to set up an office there, these guys can help you navigate the complexities of the tax system there and also the complexities of additional compliance and regulations. Avoid those penalties and talk to these guys. You’ll also find they have more than a passing interest in mobile and technology and are very pleased to be supporting this edition of Swedish Beers.

inspiring logosAnd last but by no means least, we have inspiringinterns (internships and graduate recruitment) and inspiringsearch (digital recruitment and headhunting). If you’re a regular at Swedish Beers, you’re bound to have met one or more of the team already. Charlie and Benedict were on the door for our Barcelona party, CEO, Ben, has been attending Swedish Beers since they started back in 2001 and they’ve sponsored many times over the years. The team have been recruiting for the mobile industry for many years and are very knowledgeable and approachable.

If you haven’t signed up already, you can still do that over on Eventbrite or add yourself on Facebook. Doors will open at 6.30pm and we’ll be there for as long as people want to hang out.

See you in Barcelona!

First we take Manhattan, then we take Berlin!

That’s right people. To misquote Leonard Cohen, we were in Manhattan 10 days ago and now we’re headed to Berlin. Tomorrow! We have a couple of things lined up for you. First up is a panel discussion tomorrow afternoon looking at Where Mobile Meets Media in Berlin. We’ll be talking about the opportunities in Germany and also the international scene. We’ll look at monetisation and marketing and we’ll share some insights about where the German publishing industry is and where we think it’s all going. If there’s time, we’ll even have a few demos to share with you. That’s all going to be at Futurice’s Berlin office on Schützenstraße 6, 10117 Berlin. Free to attend and we have room for about 40 in total. The aim is to keep it intimate to allow for good conversation as we know there’s as much insight in the audience as there will be on the panel. Doors open at 2.30pm for a 3.15pm start.

Then in the evening, as the weather forecast is so good, we’re going outdoors for Swedish Beers. We’ve booked some space at Golgatha in Victoria Park from 6pm. Join our sponsors Somo, Futurice and Adeven for a few beers, some sunshine and some mobile chat. The first few beers are on them and then we’ll revert to a pay bar. What’s not to like about a few beers in the sun and putting the mobile world to rights!

Please RSVP for each event if you’d like to join us.

Swedish Beers parties galore klaxon alert!

Well, they say you can have too much of a good thing, but I’m not so sure when it comes to Swedish Beers! We have Swedish Beers coming to three cities near you in the next few weeks so come on down and join the fun, hang with other people with a passing interest in mobile and enjoy a relaxing evening chewing the fat and putting the mobile world to rights.

New York – 2 May 2013

First up, it’s a last-minute jaunt to the Big Apple. Helen will be there on Thursday 2 May with Lubna, Grace, Becky and Petra lending a hand to ensure you have a good time. Antony and Jerome from Ribot will be sponsoring the first few beers but there’s room for another sponsor if you’re up for it. It’s free to attend and we’d love to see you.

More info and RSVP here http://mobileheroes.net/events/event/swedish-beers-hits-the-big-apple/

Berlin – 15 May 2013

Next we’re off to Berlin to take in the culture, enjoy a panel discussion, check out some new mobile start-ups and then finish the day with some cheer from Swedish Beers and our friends at Adeven. Again, we’d love to see another sponsor or two benefit from getting involved (get in touch here) but in the meantime, do join Helen, Russell and Kristina for some Swedish, (well probably German), Beers.

More info and RSVP here  http://mobileheroes.net/events/event/swedish-beers-on-tour-in-berlin/

London – 13 June 2013

And it wouldn’t be the Summer if we didn’t have a Swedish Beers bash in our home city of London Town. All we’ve done is reserve the date at our favourite London watering hole, The Nordic Bar, and we’re ready and waiting to get sponsors on board. Helen’s talking to a few already but get in touch if you’d like to join the fun. We just wanted to make sure you had the date saved so we can have a blowout party….

More info and RSVP here: http://mobileheroes.net/events/event/swedish-beers-is-it-summer-yet-party/

Sponsorship and time permitting, we’ll be visiting more cities from Leeds to San Francisco. If you’d like to see Swedish Beers happening in your city and can help make that happen, then let Helen know.

Swedish Beers celebrates 11 years of parties for mobilists in London!

11-today-mobile-badge-large textureI know, I can’t believe it either. Eleven years ago in October 2001, Swedish Beers started to bring together people who had an interest in mobile technology in an informal, friendly way. Well, we must be doing something right as we’re still here and plan to celebrate our birthday in style with a little help from our friends.

The party is AKA The ‘I’m not at Dublin Web Summit’ Edition or the ‘I’m not in SF for TwilioCon’ or even ‘The 11th Birthday Bash’ Edition as October is a busy month when it comes to mobile events. The nights are drawing in, there’s a chill in the air and the leaves are falling from the trees. But fear not, Swedish Beers is 11 years young and celebrating its birthday in the usual format in London – no presentations, no formalities, no sales pitches, no ties – just friendly people chatting about mobile over a beer or three. Doors will be open from 6.30pm onwards at our regular haunt, The Nordic Bar.

logo_large millennialOur lead sponsor once again is Millennial Media. And if you haven’t met them already, they’re specialists in premium mobile advertising and have a mobile advertising and data platform. They’ve recently been doing some very successful work in rich media advertising too so can tell you what works and what doesn’t in this burgeoning area of mobile advertising. They’re a super-friendly bunch and are very knowledgeable too. And as lead sponsor (again! We’re very grateful), they’ll have the most beer tokens 😉 Look out for Gavin, Stephen and the rest of the team. http://millennialmedia.com/

They’ll be ably supported by…

LoopMe_site_logo_150x100LoopMe was founded to solve the problem of making advertising less intrusive, more enjoyable, valuable and relevant for mobile consumers. At the right time and place, great advertising and offers can be great content. LoopMe puts consumers first, allowing them to be in control of their own advertising preferences and experiences. Rather than giving the game away here about how it actually works, I’ll leave mobile advertising veteran, Stephen Upstone and his LoopMe partners in crime to give you the low-down whether you’re an advertiser, publisher or developer. I’ve seen the app in action and it definitely has legs and is one of the few innovations I’ve seen in mobile advertising in some time. http://loopmemedia.com

inspiring interns logo[3]Inspiring Interns – they’re a recruitment company specialising in helping companies recruit interns and helping set-up and manage intern programmes. They also have years of experience in the world of mobile and are possibly the loveliest recruitment people out there. Yes, I’m biased, their founder, Ben, is a close friend of the Swedish Beers family. But they really do know their onions. Look out for Ben, Benedict, Sam, Charlie and Andrew for beer tokens. http://inspiringinterns.com/

Yuilop – their mission is simple: to make communication free, easy and for everybody – to – everybody – to any phone, anywhere in the world. Yuilop offers a free-to-all social communication app for all major mobile platforms integrating free calls (yuilip-to-yuilop) and free unlimited SMS text messaging with Facebook-Messenger. This is ad-supported without interfering with your outgoing messages. A free download on iOS and Android, reach any phone via voice, SMS or rich media in 110 countries and counting. Phil Gontier will be on hand to explain the ad-funded bit to you if you’re interested in understanding that better. Or he’ll be there just to chew the mobile fat with you and share the beer token love. http://yuilop.com

If you’re interested in joining these lovely companies as a fellow sponsor, please get in touch with Helen by email.

So to recap:

What – Swedish Beers Mobile Networking
When – Wednesday 17 October 2012 from 6.30pm
Where – Nordic Bar, Newman Street, London. Nearest tubes are Tottenham Court Road or Goodge Street.

RSVP – (optional but you might want to connect with people you know) over at Facebook and please bring a business card with you to get your first beer token. Sponsors will have the rest of the tokens so you’ll need to get chatting with them to get your hands on more. There are *plenty* to go around!

So spread the word, and come on down for a fun evening with friends old and new. You don’t have to be a mobile expert to join us. All welcome with a passing interest in mobile technology.

Skål
